7 Day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi at The Maridadi Hotel (or similar). In the evening, you’ll have a detailed briefing and gear check with your mountain guide. Use the rest of the day to rest and prepare for the adventure.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780 m)

After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate for registration. The trek begins through lush rainforest, with chances to see monkeys and colorful birds. The trail is gentle and leads to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, where your tents will be set up and dinner served.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa (2,780 m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)

Leaving the forest, the trail climbs steadily into the heather and moorland zone. You’ll cross rocky landscapes and enjoy beautiful views of the Shira Plateau. The day ends at Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll rest and enjoy the cool mountain air.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m)

Today’s hike is relatively gentle as you cross the expansive Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic areas. You may see unique high-altitude plants like giant lobelias and senecios along the way. You’ll arrive at Shira 2 Camp, with stunning views of Kibo Peak.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) – Lava Tower (4,630 m) – Barranco Camp (3,976 m)

This is a key acclimatization day. You ascend gradually to Lava Tower, where you stop for lunch at 4,630 m. From here, the trail descends into the beautiful Barranco Valley, known for its impressive giant groundsels. You’ll spend the night at Barranco Camp, set beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.

Day 6: Barranco Camp (3,976 m) – Barafu Camp (4,673 m)

The day begins with an exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, offering breathtaking views from the top. The trail continues through the alpine desert and passes the Karanga Valley before heading toward Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. You’ll have an early dinner and rest before the midnight ascent.

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m)

Your summit push begins around midnight. You’ll climb slowly but steadily toward Stella Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After enjoying the moment, you descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for the night.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,080 m) – Mweka Gate (1,640 m) – Moshi/Arusha

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your official summit certificate. Your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha for a much-needed shower and celebration.
