6 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by our driver and transferred to your hotel in Moshi at The Maridadi Hotel (or similar). You’ll meet your mountain guide for a briefing and equipment check. Spend the evening resting and preparing for your upcoming adventure.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1,840 m) – Mandara Hut (2,700 m)

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Marangu Gate for registration with park authorities. The trek begins through lush rainforest, offering opportunities to see colobus monkeys and an array of birds. The trail is well-maintained and leads steadily to Mandara Hut. Upon arrival, hot tea and dinner will be served.

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

You leave the forest behind and enter the heather and moorland zone, with sweeping views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The gradual ascent brings you to Horombo Hut, one of the most scenic spots on the route. Enjoy a warm dinner and settle in for the night.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

This day helps your body adjust to the altitude. You’ll take a short acclimatization hike toward Zebra Rocks or the Mawenzi Ridge, offering stunning views and excellent photo opportunities. Afterward, return to Horombo Hut for lunch, rest, and preparation for the higher ascent.

Day 5: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Kibo Hut (4,720 m)

The trek continues across the alpine desert, following the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes more rugged as you approach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit attempt. You’ll have an early dinner before going to bed to rest for the midnight ascent.

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Summit day begins shortly after midnight. You climb slowly but steadily to Gilman’s Point, then push onward past Stella Point to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you descend back to Kibo Hut for a short break, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night.

Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate (1,840 m) – Moshi/Arusha

After breakfast, descend through the moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. At the gate, you’ll receive your official summit certificate. Your driver will then transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha for a hot shower and well-deserved rest.
