This thrilling 3-day expedition takes you through diverse ecosystems—from lush montane forests teeming with elephants, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys to dramatic moorlands and alpine desert—while offering some of East Africa’s most spectacular scenery including views into Meru’s massive volcanic crater and the striking Ash Cone. The climb culminates with a pre-dawn summit attempt along a breathtaking narrow ridge line between sheer inner cliffs and the crater’s outer wall, where you’ll be rewarded with a stunning sunrise and, on clear days, views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically above the clouds. After arriving at Saddle Hut and enjoying a hot lunch in the early afternoon, you have the option to make a rewarding short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb panoramic views and a spectacular sunset before returning to Saddle Hut for dinner and overnight rest as you prepare mentally and physically for tomorrow’s summit attempt.
